Elon Musk has announced plans to open-source the X platform’s recommendation algorithm, citing transparency and public trust. The billionaire tech CEO also revealed that all code related to organic and ad content recommendations will be shared every four weeks, starting in seven days.

Open Source X Algorithm

Musk's post on X stated, “We will make the new ???? algorithm, including all code used to determine what organic and advertising posts are recommended to users, open source in 7 days.” He added that this would not be a one-time exercise, stating, “This will be repeated every 4 weeks, with comprehensive developer notes, to help you understand what changed.”

The open-source initiative aims to enhance transparency amid rising bot-driven crypto posts, prompting suggestions to adjust algorithm sensitivity for content accuracy and platform engagement.

Research indicates that open-sourcing the algorithm could encourage scrutiny from crypto communities and developers. This initiative can potentially lead to refined content filtering and enhanced platform trust.

Grok Under Scanner

Grok has come under fire after users were able to create NSFW images and videos depicting identifiable individuals without their consent. The company has since restricted advanced image and video generation tools to paid users and tightened access.

The incident has raised urgent concerns around privacy, exploitation and the lack of safeguards in AI systems.

xAI introduced the “Companions” product in 2025. It featured anime-style characters that could flirt, show off and engage in explicit dialogue. A separate “spicy mode” in its video generator allowed the creation of highly suggestive visuals.

These tools helped Grok stand out in a crowded AI market. On the other hand, its rival ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini follow stricter limits on adult content.

The strategy worked in terms of visibility and traction. App downloads and in-app spending jumped sharply after these features were rolled out.

Final Thoughts

The decision may reduce algorithm sensitivity, potentially impacting content curation on the platform. Crypto-related posts are frequently being blocked due to algorithm adjustments. While the immediate interface remains unchanged, the move provides data to address claims regarding content bias and visibility restrictions.

Meanwhile, the X platform recently saw a massive rise in crypto-related content, with bots posting over 7.75 million times in one day, marking a 1,224% increase.
