Apple has introduced AirTag 2 as its first significant hardware upgrade since 2021, enhancing its widely used item tracking device. The new device features a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, improved Bluetooth connectivity, and a speaker that is 50 percent louder than the original model. The AirTag 2, which costs AED 129 for one unit or AED 439 for four units, maintains its original size and design, allowing it to work with current accessories and holders.

Airline Integration

The AirTag 2 supports Share Item Location, an iOS feature that lets users temporarily share tracker links with third parties, including more than 50 airline partners. According to SITA, carriers using the feature have seen a 26 percent reduction in baggage delays and a 90 percent drop in permanently lost luggage. The integration feeds location data directly into SITA’s WorldTracer system, which is used by over 500 airlines and 2,800 airports worldwide, streamlining baggage tracking for travelers.

Upgraded Tracking Capabilities

AirTag 2 uses the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip found in the iPhone 17 lineup, iPhone Air, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch Series 11. The upgrade enables users to find lost items through Precision Finding, which now provides location assistance up to 60 meters, which is almost 200 feet.

For the first time, users can access Precision Finding directly from the wrist using Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later. The internal speaker now operates at 50 percent increased volume, enabling users to hear the tracker chime from longer distances, assisting in locating items hidden beneath furniture or inside bags.

Privacy and Environmental Features

Apple states that AirTag 2 includes features that track objects but prevent tracking of people and pets according to their existing security measures. The device shows Apple's environmental commitment through its design, which uses 85 percent recycled plastic for its enclosure and 100 percent recycled rare earth elements for magnets and recycled gold plating for printed circuit boards. The tracker needs iOS 26 or newer to function, yet it will start selling at Apple Store locations beginning this week.

AirTag 2 uses better hardware and extended tracking capabilities, together with better connectivity across Apple products and airline systems, to provide users with an exact and user-friendly way to locate their belongings while keeping their personal information and environmental resources safe.

One can buy the latest devices on online e-commerce websites like iSTYLE UAE and Noon.
