Google has begun rolling out its January 2026 software update for Pixel devices running Android 16. The update focuses on security fixes and system stability rather than new features. It marks Google’s first monthly Pixel update of the year and is being released in stages.
Pixel users can manually check for the update by going to Settings > System > Software update. As with previous rollouts, availability may vary depending on region and carrier, with wider access expected over the coming days.
The January patch is available for several recent Pixel models. These include the Pixel 7a, Pixel 8 series, Pixel 9 lineup, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel Fold devices. Google has also pushed the update to its newest Pixel 10 series.
Older phones such as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are no longer part of Google’s monthly update programme. These models have reached the end of their regular security update cycle and will not receive this patch.
Google has bundled the latest Android security patches with the January release. These updates address multiple vulnerabilities identified in recent months and improve overall device protection.
The update also tackles a number of performance issues reported by Pixel users. Google has fixed bugs linked to system stability and reduced instances of random app crashes.
A few people who experienced a sudden loss of battery life after the previous updates might get a better power efficiency result due to this patch. The update has included a lot of changes for the newer devices, especially the Pixel 10 series, particularly the Graphics and GPU performance fixes.
These modifications are designed to render the gaming experience smoother, to eliminate frame drops, and to increase visual stability during heavy work. Minor changes in Google’s display behavior and touch responsiveness have also been made.

The update is relatively small in size and installs quickly. A device restart is required once the installation is complete. The gradual deployment means that some people will get the new version after others have already had it.
Google still counts on its monthly update schedule to ensure the security and stability of Pixel smartphones. Major changes can be expected only in different aspects, as Android 16 is already very much paved. The next security update is predicted to be in February.
